An Adventure That Started in 1610

Cupids is home to the first English settlement in Canada. Founded by John Guy, a merchant from Bristol, he and 39 British colonists established one of the oldest settlements in all of North America in 1610. History continues to unfold through an active archaeological dig site and an immersive museum that tells the settlers’ amazing story.

Cupids Cove has been known by many names over the centuries — Coopers, Copers Cove, Cupers Cove, and Cuperts. Now, 410 years later, not only can you visit the historical settlement site at Cupids, but you can also watch archaeologists uncover its secrets piece by piece.

Being one of the oldest English settlements in North America means the artifacts uncovered here are the oldest you’ll find in Canada.

The Municipality of Cupids was incorporated in 1965.
